In our world, the majority of people are so consumed with getting there their name up the ladder they sacrifice that for their sleep. Most people could probably use more sleep and a more consistent sleep routine, but what if your job requires you to be on the road as much as you are at home? That is the challenge that Major League Baseball players are dealt with.
The Seattle Mariners have began using a state-of-the-art piece of wearable technology called the Readiband to fix this problem and find answers to each individual player. The Readiband tracks many things including; quality and quantity of sleep, how many times someone wakes up, and how long it takes them to fall asleep.
The challenge is to optimize the opportunity of sleep for these players. The Readiband shows the impact that sleep has on the athletes performance and reaction time. The use of the Readiband seemed to be beneficial for the Mariners’, as they had on of their best season as a team in a decade. The Readiband has also been used in the NBA, NFL, MLS, U.S. Navy, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Is the Readiband something you would be interested in using and how would is help you?

It seems like a lot of companies are making devices like this now. It would appear that the Readiband has a lot of usefulness in baseball. I could definitely see this technology helping to make more effective use of time in a lot of industries.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use the Readiband to monitor and evaluate my sleeping patterns, characteristics, etc. I think sleep is one of the most important healthy actions we perform as humans. Many of us, college students or even Americans for that matter, struggle getting to that 8 hours of recommended sleep.
ReplyDeleteIf I could visually see my results in an app that was connected to the band, then I would almost be inclined to get more sleep.
This band idea could lead the way into more detailed and extensive health care for the average person with a smartphone.
I would use it. It comes with credible sources of where it has been used already. That says a lot about a product. I think it would help me by mostly acting as a reminder.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't use this? It's a great application of technology. I don't see how you couldn't want to use it when it can do things like show you your performance on a given quantity and quality of sleep. I know I could benefit with my crazy sleep schedule I have now.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use this even if you don't have a problem sleeping it is just cool to see the data on how your body is functioning during sleep. I know i would enjoy learning from it.
