Snapchat Hack

Despite the Snapchat hack earlier this year, it has not slowed down the active users on Snapchat at all. A new study found that most college students still trust Snapchat and haven't changed their use of the app since the hack. The hack of Snapchat resulted in nearly 200,000 private user photos and videos that were published all over the web. The Snapchat photos and videos are on the same site that leaked the first exposing photos of actress Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrities.

There was a pole that found that even with the security vulnerabilities within the app, the majority of Snapchat's college users aren't having second thoughts about the app. Of these students, most said the hack would not change how they use the app and over half reported they still trust Snapchat. There is an app called Snapsaved, Snapsaved is the third party Snapchat-saving app that was the target of the hack. Surprisingly there were students who actually  claimed of using the app themselves. One of the most popular reasons that college students like to communicate on Snapchat is because their parents are not on there. On Facebook, almost everyone has an account and stalks your profile. Snapchat is for the more younger crowd than the older.

What is your input on the whole Snapchat hack? Do you or would you still use Snapchat?

Sports Science Breaks Down Royals Defense

By: Trent Sullivan

What the Royals are doing right now in their first postseason appearance in nearly 30 years is amazing. The Royals wins have been fueled my great pitching, timely hitting, and some incredible defensive plays. Lorenzo Cain has lead the defensive charge and has his own highlight reel from the playoffs.

The Sports Science team has been able to analyze Cain’s defensive plays and are able to break them down in ways never seen before. They have been able to figure out how fast Cain is running to track down fly balls in the gaps, the length of Cain’s stride at max speed and how much ground he can cover on any fly ball.

As a college baseball play and a baseball fan, the efforts of the Sports Science team is amusable to me. The fact that Sport Science is able to quantify the qualitative in these plays is something we have not seen much of before.

Naturally this time of the year many people who do not follow the regular season of baseball will tune into the playoffs. Do you think that these fans would appreciate the break down of some of these plays live? I think that professional baseball players are often overlooked as how good of athletes they really are. I think with the help of Sport Science breaking down there plays that people will understand how good of athletes some of these baseball players are.

Are you a baseball fan or have you tuned into any of the MLB playoffs? As someone watching the game would you like to see the Sports Science team break down some plays live during the game?

Technology in Fashion

Santiago A. Romero

Fashion and technology are coming together like never before. Burberry and its special “What If Groups” are dedicating themselves to wearable technology as fashion goes down a futuristic path. Integrating technology and fashion can have positive advantages for people who gravitate toward a life with style. For example, when shoppers at a Burberry store in London approached one of the screens in a fitting room, specific content like information about the materials used in a bag, or a video showing how a skirt was worn on the runway would appear. Intelligent mirrors become screens showcasing catwalk images, and show the outfit you're trying on as if you were the star of a catwalk show. This makes shopping for outfits more of a hands on experience by giving you additional information of how to wear a certain piece of clothing or what the style looks like and maybe even extra options or color ways that may suit you better. Burberry has fully embraced fashion technology, it has integrated the physical and digital in its flagship stores in London, Hong Kong and Chicago. This technology opens up doors for “smart fabrics” or clothes with embedded sensors and microprocessors that are capable of communicating with smart phones to process information like the wearer’s heart rate or temperature. With this uprising technology slowly coming into place, do you think this will be a trend in the retail industry?

Deep Space Hibernation

Long manned missions out in space present many challenges. Not including the sheer amount of food, water and air to keep a crew alive for months or even years at a time. Also there's the fact that they would be bored all the time locked up in a little metal tube for the duration of time they're in space. They could play board games, exercise, play video games, but all of that equipment and pieces would take up vital space on a spaceship. There is not much free room on a spaceship that they can just fill with useless items. They would start suffering from claustrophobia, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. So NASA has came up with a solution to this problem, inducing the astronauts in a state of hypothermia resulting in torpor- a kind of hibernation.

What is it?

Rather than being awake for months or years while they are on their space mission, astronauts could
enter a state of deep sleep at the beginning of their mission and then wake up near the end. This way, they could arrive rejuvenated and ready to work, rather than exhausted and maybe even insane. "Instead of astronauts stepping into a tube and having their temperature lowered, torpor would be induced via the RhinoChill – a device that uses invasive tubes to shoot cooling liquid up the nose and into the base of the brain."

                                              What Would this Solve?

This would make mean that we could cut down on the need for room and supplies. But the greatest positive would money! With a crew in hibernation, ships could be built smaller or have more room to accommodate safety features. At the same time, smaller, lighter ships would mean that material, construction, and fuel costs would be lower.

Questions?

So what are your opinions on this new technology development? Would this work? What do you think the side effects would be? If an astronaut is asleep for like 20 years would he remember what he was taught?

Chevrolet Speeds up with OnStar 4G LTE

A rolling hot spot for vehicles that enables the usage of internet while on the road. 4G LTE  Connectivity has made its way into the new line of Chevrolet cars, meaning each car has built in wi-fi capabilities that allows families/passengers to connect smartphones, tablets, laptops or any like devices which can be great for road trips or business calls. This is the newest Tech in the car industries brought to Chevrolet by AT&T, a well formed partnership that is linking up to give passengers a better inside experience. 2015 models will provide drivers/passengers with downloadable apps that range from Music (iHeartRadio), Vehicle Data, News (Slacker Radio), Weather (Weather Channel), and/or Travel information.Several benefits from this technology are; improving sluggish in-dash services when traveling, refreshing maps in seconds rather than minutes, check locations and pull up directions ASAP, and it can also be used to report any current traffic conditions. Mr. Penrose of AT&T calls this the “car-ifying” of online services, making one feel as if “the car is taking care of you.” I really like this idea and hope to see what comes from it but my only wonder is, will this become a safety issue? Will people become side-tracked to the point driving becomes difficult with so many possibilities for distractions?

The Death of FarmVille

Does anyone truly miss receiving 342 notifications a day on their Facebook from Farmville players? "Oh no! It looks like Susan Oliver's crops withered and she needs your help!" "Kelly Hart has asked to be your neighbor." "Moe Stanley's crops need water. Help her out while she is away." I know I sure do not miss my news feed being blown up with pictures of everyone's farm and how they need help on their farm.

Farmville's 5th Birthday

FarmVille celebrated its 5th birthday this summer. Back in 2010 it had more than 80 million active players during its peak. FarmVille was rated number seven top games. But currently Time magazine rated it one of the 50 worst inventions. 370 million virtual crops are harvested every day in FarmVille and FarmVille 2, indicating players' dedication and involvement. As people moved to playing games on mobile phones, FarmVille fell to 84th place in game rankings this year before rebounding lately to 73rd.

FarmVille Helps?

One person claimed in the article that, "our lives are increasingly fragmented. They're overly 'technologied.' And we are separated from our community. In 'FarmVille, we can get away from that. We can have a fantasy of a sweet, quiet, serene farm, and we can play with other players who really care about each other." Isn't this a little redundant? Saying that our world is too "technologied" yet playing and getting too involved a game on the internet isn't being "technologied"? Another person claimed that FarmVille made her sons grades in school go up from C's and D's to A's and B's because of the math. Another person claims it helped her find love and fall in love all over again. Another person claims that her life has been completely altered because she plays FarmVille.

Did you ever play FarmVille? Were you ever so caught up in it that it changed your life? What do you think of the claims people have made about it, how it can make you fall in love or boost your grades? Can FarmVille, or any online game for that matter, change your life? Are these people just addicted to the game?
