Chevrolet Speeds up with OnStar 4G LTE

A rolling hot spot for vehicles that enables the usage of internet while on the road. 4G LTE  Connectivity has made its way into the new line of Chevrolet cars, meaning each car has built in wi-fi capabilities that allows families/passengers to connect smartphones, tablets, laptops or any like devices which can be great for road trips or business calls. This is the newest Tech in the car industries brought to Chevrolet by AT&T, a well formed partnership that is linking up to give passengers a better inside experience. 2015 models will provide drivers/passengers with downloadable apps that range from Music (iHeartRadio), Vehicle Data, News (Slacker Radio), Weather (Weather Channel), and/or Travel information.Several benefits from this technology are; improving sluggish in-dash services when traveling, refreshing maps in seconds rather than minutes, check locations and pull up directions ASAP, and it can also be used to report any current traffic conditions. Mr. Penrose of AT&T calls this the “car-ifying” of online services, making one feel as if “the car is taking care of you.” I really like this idea and hope to see what comes from it but my only wonder is, will this become a safety issue? Will people become side-tracked to the point driving becomes difficult with so many possibilities for distractions?

  1. There will always be a positive and negative side to new technology, but I think that this revolutionary car experience will be a positive move for both AT&T and Chevrolet.

The first thing that caught my attention was the built in WiFi capabilities. This automatically means that there will be some sort of Internet connection between the car and the cell phone company. I mention this because of the numerous cases of murder, kidnapping, car theft, etc. each year. Car owners will now feel safe knowing their car has the possibility of being found if something were to go wrong.

    1. That is definitely a positive side to this technology. It gives people a sense of comfort in the case of a tragic event like theft that leads to kidnapping murders. This could find missing cars and find its location in short amounts of time.

  2. Honestly, I think that this technology sounds great. I think there are a lot of possibilities for this to help driver. More technical apps would probably soon appear, allowing drivers to see their average gas mileage and perhaps specific maintenance needs. I would not be at all concerned about a distraction problem since cell phones already do just as much or more distracting than this system would. The downside I see is that since the service is through AT&T, I'm guessing there will be some sort of price tag that comes along with the connectivity.

    1. The prices would be the downside for sure, but you get what you pay for and the possibilities of having in car wi-fi are endless. Being able to keep track of your cars "health", by itself is already a great reason to invest in a new Chevrolet.
